Zepbound Heartburn: How Common, How Long It Lasts

Yes. In the Zepbound trials, 10% of people on 15 mg had heartburn and indigestion, against 4% on placebo: about 2 times the placebo rate. It is the fifth most common side effect in that table. Smaller, slower meals help most.

The reasons it happens with Zepbound

The stomach empties more slowly because of these medicines. Food remains in your stomach longer, so heartburn and indigestion may follow, especially after a large or fatty meal.

What helps, step by step

  1. For now, avoid foods that are spicy or fatty.
  2. Stay upright after eating instead of lying down.
  3. Eat smaller meals and stop when you feel full. These medicines make the stomach empty more slowly.
  4. Eat slowly. It takes time for your brain to sense that you are full.
  5. Foods high in fat, grease, or sugar often cause symptoms, so have less of them.
  6. If it does not ease, tell your prescriber. Your prescriber may slow the dose increases, or may suggest another GLP-1.

Before taking anything from the drugstore, check it with the GLP-1 interactions tool.
