Why it happens on GLP-1

These medicines make your stomach empty more slowly. When food sits longer, it can bring on heartburn and indigestion, especially after you eat big or fatty meals.

What the Ozempic label states

This label mentions heartburn and indigestion word for word:

“associated with OZEMPIC (frequencies listed, respectively, as: placebo; 0.5 mg; 1 mg): dyspepsia (1.9%, 3.5%, 2.7%), eructation (0%, 2.7%, 1.1%), flatulence (0.8%, 0.4%, 1.5%), gastroesophageal”

What helps, step by step

  1. For the time being, do not eat spicy or fatty foods.
  2. Stay upright after a meal instead of lying down.
  3. Eat smaller meals and stop when you feel full. These medicines make your stomach empty more slowly.
  4. Eat slowly. Your brain takes time to notice when you are full.
  5. Fatty, greasy and sugary foods often trigger symptoms, so have less of them.
  6. Let your prescriber know if it does not ease. A different GLP-1 might be recommended, or dose increases might be slowed down.

Before taking anything from the drugstore, check it using the GLP-1 interaction checker.
