Half-life is the number of days the body needs to clear half a dose, based on section 12.3 of each FDA label.
Share of body weight. Because trials differ in dose and length, check each result against its medicine’s placebo result on that page.

Why it happens on GLP-1
These medicines slow down how quickly your stomach empties. Food stays in your body longer, and this can cause constipation, especially after large or fatty meals.

What the Ozempic label says
The label lists constipation in these exact words:
“Gastrointestinal: acute pancreatitis and necrotizing pancreatitis, sometimes resulting in death; ileus, intestinal obstruction, severe constipation including fecal impaction”
This comes from the FDA label (DailyMed).
What helps, step by step
- Drink water throughout the day to keep stools soft.
- Take a short walk. Moving helps the gut move.
- Place your feet on a small stool while you sit on the toilet.
- Ask about getting a laxative or stool softener from the drugstore.
- Eat smaller meals and stop once you feel full. These medicines cause the stomach to empty more slowly.
- Eat slowly. Your brain needs time to recognize that you are full.
- Tell your prescriber if the constipation does not ease. They may slow the dose increases or suggest another GLP-1.
Before taking any drugstore product, check it with the GLP-1 interactions checker.
