Rybelsus Diarrhea: How Common, How Long It Lasts, What Helps
Yes. In the Rybelsus trials, 10% of people on 14 mg had diarrhea, against 4% on placebo: about 2 times the placebo rate. It is the third most common side effect in that table. Smaller, slower meals help most.

Why it happens on Rybelsus
These medicines slow how quickly the stomach empties. Diarrhea can happen if food stays in the stomach longer, especially after a large or fatty meal.

What helps, step by step
- Replace fluids and salts by drinking water and an electrolyte drink.
- Eat soft, bland, low-fiber foods for a while.
- Cut back on caffeine, alcohol and milk drinks.
- Ask your prescriber about an anti-diarrhea medicine you can buy at the drugstore.
- Have smaller meals, and stop eating once you feel full. These medicines slow down how fast your stomach empties.
- Eat slowly. Your brain needs time to recognize when you are full.
- Let your prescriber know if it does not ease. It is possible that another GLP-1 will be suggested, or that the dose increases will be slowed.
Before taking anything from the drugstore, check it with the GLP-1 interaction tool.
