Wegovy Diarrhea: Why, How Long It Lasts, What Helps
Yes. In the Wegovy trials, 30% of people on 2.4 mg had diarrhea, against 16% on placebo: about 2 times the placebo rate. It is the second most common side effect in that table. Smaller, slower meals help most.

How often it occurs: Wegovy vs placebo

Why it happens on Wegovy
These medicines slow the rate at which your stomach empties. Food stays in place longer, which can cause diarrhea, especially after a large or fatty meal.

What the Wegovy label says
The label's own wording on diarrhea appears here:
“common adverse reactions leading to discontinuation were nausea (1.8% versus 0.2%), vomiting (1.2% versus 0%), and diarrhea (0.7% versus 0.1%) for WEGOVY and placebo, respectively.”

What helps, step by step
- Replace fluids and salts with water and an electrolyte drink.
- Choose soft, bland and low-fiber foods for a while.
- Cut back on caffeine, alcohol and drinks with milk.
- Talk with your prescriber about an anti-diarrhea medicine you can buy at a drugstore.
- Choose meals that are smaller, and stop eating when you feel full. These medicines make the stomach empty more slowly.
- Eat slowly. Your brain needs time to sense when you are full.
- If it does not ease, let your prescriber know. Your prescriber may increase the dose more slowly or recommend another GLP-1.
Before taking any drugstore product, check it with the GLP-1 interactions checker to look for interactions.
