What is different for seniors?
| What changes | What the label says |
|---|---|
| Hypoglycemia | Low blood sugar is more likely when you combine it with insulin or a sulfonylurea, so those doses may need to be lowered. |
| Acute Kidney Injury Due to Volume Depletion | Kidney injury can result from vomiting or diarrhea that causes fluid loss. Drink fluids and report heavy fluid loss. |
| Heart Rate Increase | Can raise resting heart rate. Tell your doctor about a racing or pounding heart while you are at rest. |
| Taken with insulin or sulfonylureas | Taking it with insulin or a sulfonylurea, such as glipizide or glimepiride, makes low blood sugar more likely. Your doctor may lower the doses. |

Coverage for seniors
Medicare Part D may cover these medicines if they are prescribed for diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
Part D plans may cover a GLP-1 used for type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, or moderate to severe sleep apnea.
Medicare Part D does not cover a GLP-1 when you take it only for weight loss.
People who meet the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge rules can find Wegovy on its list at $50 per month.
Weight-loss GLP-1s usually need prior authorization from Medicaid programs that cover them.
