What is different for seniors?

Trulicity: label points for older adults
What changesWhat the label says
Hypoglycemia When Used With Insulin Secretagogues or InsulinIf you use it alongside insulin or a sulfonylurea, low blood sugar becomes more likely, so their doses may need to be reduced.
Acute Kidney Injury Due to Volume DepletionFluid loss from vomiting or diarrhea can lead to kidney injury. Drink fluids and report heavy fluid loss.
Taken with insulin or sulfonylureasCombining it with insulin or with a sulfonylurea, for example glipizide or glimepiride, raises the chance of low blood sugar, and the doctor may reduce those doses.
Taken with warfarin and narrow-range drugsA medicine where small level changes matter, such as warfarin, needs closer monitoring.

Coverage for seniors

For diabetes or cardiovascular disease, these prescribed medicines can fall under Medicare Part D coverage.

Part D plans may cover a GLP-1 for type 2 diabetes, moderate to severe sleep apnea or fatty liver disease.

A GLP-1 used only for weight loss will not receive coverage through Medicare Part D.

Weight-loss GLP-1s covered by Medicaid programs usually need prior authorization.
