Why it happens on semaglutide

These medicines slow how quickly your stomach empties. Food sitting longer can bring on nausea, mainly after big or fatty meals.

Ozempic label wording

The label says this about nausea, word for word:

“majority of the reported events occurred in patients who experienced gastrointestinal reactions leading to dehydration such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea [see Adverse Reactions (6.1)].”

What helps, step by step

  1. Sip ginger or peppermint tea that contains no sweetener.
  2. After you eat, stay upright instead of lying down.
  3. Talk with your prescriber about having a nausea medicine on hand.
  4. Choose smaller meals, and stop eating once you feel full. Your stomach empties more slowly because of these medicines.
  5. Eat slowly. Your brain needs time to recognize when you are full.
  6. Reduce fatty, greasy and sugary foods because they often cause symptoms.
  7. If it does not ease, tell your prescriber. Your prescriber may increase the dose more slowly or suggest another GLP-1.

Before taking anything from the drugstore, check it with the GLP-1 interactions checker.
