Scam signals
- No prescription needed: sellers that skip it are not licensed US pharmacies.
- Brand prices far below what the manufacturer charges: the lowest self-pay price for the brand is $149 a month.
- Compounded drugs carrying a brand name: no FDA approval exists for compounded drugs, so none counts as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Two salt forms carry the name Semaglutide: semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate. Both are not the same as the active ingredient found in approved drugs.
- Telehealth companies received 30 warning letters from FDA over misleading claims that a product is the same as the brand.
- Harm reports: the FDA has recorded 990 adverse event reports linked to compounded semaglutide.
- A program that left the drug out of the monthly price drew FTC action; see the NextMed review.
