Scam signals
- No prescription needed: any seller that skips it is not a licensed US pharmacy.
- A brand price far below the manufacturer's own: the lowest self-pay price for the brand is $149 a month.
- Sold as the brand but compounded: these drugs have no FDA approval, so they are neither Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro nor Zepbound.
- Salt forms: semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate differ from the active ingredient used in approved drugs.
- Claims of matching the brand: misleading claims drew 30 warning letters from the FDA to telehealth companies.
- Harm reports: the FDA has on file 990 adverse event reports linked to compounded semaglutide.
- A monthly price that leaves out the drug: one program faced FTC action over this; see the NextMed review.
