Scam signals
- A prescription-free seller is not a licensed US pharmacy
- Brand prices far below the manufacturer's own price: the brand's lowest self-pay cost is $149 each month
- Marketed under the brand name but compounded: FDA has approved none of these drugs, so none of them counts as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Different salt forms: semaglutide in sodium or acetate form is not the active ingredient in the approved medicines.
- Claiming it is the same as the brand: FDA has sent 30 warning letters about misleading claims to telehealth companies
- For compounded semaglutide, FDA has 990 adverse event reports on file
- The FTC acted against one program over a monthly price that included no drug; see the NextMed program review
