Who qualifies for it
Every GLP-1 medicine sold in the US needs a prescription. Approved uses appear on the label, and for one of them a prescriber writes it:
- Taken with diet and exercise, the medicine lowers blood sugar in adults and children 10 and older with type 2 diabetes.
- For adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk, the risk of heart attack, stroke, or heart-related death drops.
Required: FDA DailyMed label

Scam signals
- Prescription not required: no seller that skips it can be a pharmacy licensed in the US.
- Compounded drugs are not FDA approved, even when sold as the brand. So they are not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro nor Zepbound.
- Over misleading claims of matching the brand, FDA sent out 30 warning letters to telehealth companies.
- Reports of harm: more than 730 adverse event reports about compounded tirzepatide are in FDA's log.
- A monthly price that omits the drug: one program faced FTC action over this; see the NextMed review.
