Who qualifies
Every GLP-1 sold in the US requires a prescription. A prescriber writes it for one of the approved uses listed on the label:
- For adults with heart disease and obesity or overweight, it lowers stroke, heart attack or heart-related death risk with injections and tablets.
- For people aged 12 and older with obesity, and for adults with overweight plus a weight-related condition, it helps people lose weight and keep it off long term, alongside diet and activity.
- For adults with moderate to advanced scarring from MASH liver disease, the injection treats the condition as long as there is no cirrhosis.

Scam signals
- No prescription required: skipping it means the seller is not a pharmacy with a US license.
- Brand pricing well below the manufacturer's charges: self-pay for the brand starts at $149 a month.
- Drugs sold as the brand but compounded: none has FDA approval, and none is Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- According to the source, the active ingredient in approved drugs differs from the salt forms called semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate.
- Claims that it matches the brand: 30 warning letters were sent to telehealth companies over misleading claims.
- Harm reports: for compounded semaglutide, the FDA holds 990 adverse event reports.
- One program was subject to FTC action because its monthly cost excluded the medicine; see the NextMed review.
