- Heart attack, stroke or heart-related death risk is lower with injection and tablets for adults who have heart disease and obesity or overweight.
- It helps with weight loss and long-term weight maintenance, along with diet and activity, for adults and children, age 12 and older, who have obesity, or for adults who have overweight plus a weight-related condition.
- For adults, it treats MASH liver disease that has moderate to advanced scarring but no cirrhosis (injection).

Signs of a scam
- No prescription needed: skipping the prescription means the seller cannot be a licensed US pharmacy.
- Brand pricing far under the manufacturer's own: $149 a month is the lowest self-pay cost for the brand.
- Compounded sold as the brand: the FDA has not approved compounded drugs, so none of them is Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Salt forms: the active ingredient in approved drugs is not the same as semaglutide sodium or semaglutide acetate.
- Misleading claims about being the same as the brand led the FDA to send 30 warning letters. Telehealth companies received them.
- Reports of harm: 990 adverse event reports tied to compounded semaglutide are on file with FDA.
- A monthly price with no drug included: the FTC acted against one program over this; see NextMed review.
