Who qualifies
All GLP-1s sold in the US need a prescription. For an approved use on the label, a prescriber writes it:
- For adults and children 10 and older with type 2 diabetes, it lowers blood sugar alongside diet and exercise.
- Stroke, heart-related death, and heart attack become less likely for adults with type 2 diabetes who have heart disease or who have several heart risk factors.

Shortage status
Dulaglutide does not appear in the current FDA shortage data; Lilly reports that every Trulicity dose is available.

Scam signals
- If no prescription is needed, the seller does not hold a US pharmacy license.
- Compounded sold as the brand: FDA has not approved compounded drugs, so these products are not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- The FDA issued 30 warning letters to telehealth companies over misleading claims, including claims that a drug matches the brand.
- A monthly price that excludes the drug cost: the FTC acted against one program over this; see NextMed review.
