Who qualifies for it
Every GLP-1 sold in the US requires a prescription. A prescriber writes it for one of the uses approved by the label:
- With diet and exercise, it helps adults and children 10 and older with type 2 diabetes lower their blood sugar.
- For adults with type 2 diabetes, this treatment lowers the chance of a heart attack, stroke, or heart-related death when heart disease or several heart risk factors are present.

The current Shortage status
Dulaglutide is absent from the current FDA shortage data, while Lilly reports that every Trulicity dose is available.

Scam signals
- You do not need a prescription: a seller that skips it is not a licensed US pharmacy.
- Sold as the brand: a compounded drug has no FDA approval, so it is not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Telehealth companies: the FDA sent 30 warning letters over misleading claims that their product is the same as the brand.
- The FTC took action against one program for monthly pricing that leaves out the drug; see the NextMed review.
