Who qualifies
In the US, every GLP-1 needs a prescription. A prescriber writes it for one approved use listed on the label:
- Among adults and children aged 10 or older who have type 2 diabetes, it lowers blood sugar when used with diet and exercise.
- It lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke, or heart-related death. This applies to adults who have type 2 diabetes and either heart disease or several heart risk factors.

Shortage status
Dulaglutide is not listed in current FDA shortage data. Lilly says every Trulicity dose is available.

Scam signals
- A seller that does not require a prescription is not a licensed US pharmacy.
- Compounded drugs sold under a brand name are not FDA approved, so they are not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Telehealth companies received 30 warning letters because they made misleading claims that their product was the same as the brand.
- The FTC acted against one program over a monthly price that leaves out the drug. See NextMed review details for more information.
