Who qualifies
Every GLP-1 requires a prescription in the US. A prescriber writes the prescription for one approved use listed on the label:
- When used with diet and exercise, this drug lowers blood sugar in adults and children 10 and older with type 2 diabetes.
- For adults with type 2 diabetes and heart disease, it lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart-related death.

Scam signals
- No prescription needed: sellers that skip it are not pharmacies licensed in the US.
- The FDA does not approve compounded drugs. A compounded product sold as the brand is not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Claims that a product matches the brand: 30 warning letters went to telehealth companies about misleading claims.
- The drug is left out of a monthly price: the FTC acted against one program for this. Read the NextMed review.
