Semaglutide and Jardiance: the verdict
Fine with care
This comes directly from the drug interactions section of the Ozempic label:
“OZEMPIC causes a delay of gastric emptying, and thereby has the potential to impact the absorption of concomitantly administered oral medications. In clinical pharmacology trials,”

Semaglutide label details
The Ozempic label does not name Jardiance (empagliflozin). Those statements still apply to it.
| Named in the label | The risk | What the label tells doctors |
|---|---|---|
| Insulin or sulfonylureas | Low blood sugar | When you use it with insulin or with a sulfonylurea such as glipizide or glimepiride, the risk of low blood sugar rises. Your doctor may reduce the doses of these drugs. |
| Oral medicines | Pills absorbed differently | It slows how fast your stomach empties, and that can change the way your body absorbs other pills. |

The practical rule
- Call your doctor the same day if you cannot keep food or fluids down.
- Tell the person who prescribes your GLP-1 about every pill you take, including this one.
- Ask your pharmacist if any pill you take needs a steady blood level. Checks may be needed for these medicines when you start or increase the dose.
- Check your blood sugar more often during the first weeks and following each dose increase.

Jardiance with other GLP-1s
Jardiance (empagliflozin) is not mentioned in the drug interaction section of any of the 10 GLP-1 labels. All of them give the same general warning about swallowed pills, so the answer is the same for the entire class.
With Ozempic, Rybelsus, Mounjaro, Trulicity, Victoza, the same question comes up.
