Semaglutide and coffee: the verdict

Generally fine when taken together

Caffeine interaction does not appear in the semaglutide labels (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus). According to the FDA, 400 milligrams of caffeine a day is not generally linked to harm in healthy adults. That amount is roughly two or three cups of coffee. Use plain water only when taking the semaglutide pills (Rybelsus, Wegovy pill), never coffee.

What the semaglutide label says

No line on coffee. For anything you drink, the most important warning is kidney injury caused by fluid loss. Fluid loss from vomiting or diarrhea can cause kidney injury. Heavy fluid loss should be reported, and you should drink fluids.

The practical rule

If coffee makes nausea or heartburn worse, drink less coffee and more water, because vomiting and diarrhea can leave you dehydrated.
