Ozempic Vomiting: How Common, How Long It Lasts, What Helps
Yes. In the Ozempic trials, 9.2% of people on 1 mg had vomiting, against 2.3% on placebo: about 4 times the placebo rate. It is the second most common side effect in that table. Smaller, slower meals help most.

What causes this when you take Ozempic
These medicines slow down how quickly the stomach empties. Food that stays put longer can cause vomiting, most often after large or fatty meals.

What the Ozempic label says about Vomiting
The label mentions vomiting here with this direct quote:
“majority of the reported events occurred in patients who experienced gastrointestinal reactions leading to dehydration such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea [see Adverse Reactions (6.1)].”

What helps, step by step
- Take frequent sips of water so you stay hydrated.
- After eating, stay upright rather than lying down.
- Check with your prescriber about a nausea medicine to have available.
- Eat smaller meals and stop when you feel full. With these medicines, your stomach empties at a slower pace.
- Eat slowly. Your brain needs some time to recognize when you are full.
- Reduce fatty foods, greasy foods, and sugary foods, as each often causes symptoms.
- Let your prescriber know if it does not ease. Your prescriber may slow the dose increases or may suggest another GLP-1.
Before taking anything bought at the drugstore, check it with the GLP-1 interactions checker.
