Scam signals
- A seller that does not require a prescription cannot hold a US pharmacy license.
- Brand prices that fall well below the manufacturer's own: for the brand, self-pay prices begin at $149 a month.
- Sold under a brand name but compounded: none is Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound, because the FDA has not approved compounded drugs.
- Salt forms: in the approved drugs, the active ingredient is neither semaglutide sodium nor semaglutide acetate.
- Calling the drug the same as the brand: the FDA sent 30 warning letters to telehealth companies over misleading claims.
- Compounded semaglutide is linked to 990 adverse event reports listed by the FDA.
- A monthly price that leaves out the drug: one program faced action from the FTC over this; read the NextMed review.
