Who qualifies
Every GLP-1 sold in the US requires a prescription. A prescriber writes the prescription for a use approved by the label:
- Victoza: For adults and children with type 2 diabetes who are 10 or older, it lowers blood sugar when used with diet and exercise.
- Victoza: For adults with type 2 diabetes and heart disease, it reduces the chance of a heart attack, stroke, or death related to the heart.
- Saxenda: Supports weight loss and long-term weight maintenance when used with diet and activity. It is for adults and children aged 12 or above (over 60 kg) who have obesity, or for adults who have overweight plus a weight-related condition.

Scam signals
- No prescription needed: sellers that skip it are not pharmacies licensed in the US.
- Compounded drugs sold as the brand: they lack FDA approval, so none of them is Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Claims that a product matches the brand: FDA issued 30 warning letters, directed at telehealth companies, over misleading statements.
- If the monthly price excludes the drug, the FTC acted against a program over that issue. See the NextMed review.
