Who qualifies
All GLP-1 medicines sold in the US require a prescription. For one of the approved uses on the label, a prescriber writes it:
- When taken with diet and exercise, Victoza lowers blood sugar in adults and children 10 and older with type 2 diabetes.
- Victoza reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, or heart-related death in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have heart disease.
- Saxenda supports long-term weight loss and weight maintenance when used with diet and activity. It is for adults and children 12 or older (over 60 kg) who have obesity, and for adults who are overweight with a weight-related condition.

- The FDA has not approved compounded drugs sold as brand products. They are not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- Claims of brand equivalence: 30 warning letters were sent to telehealth companies about misleading claims.
