Liraglutide and coffee: the verdict

Generally fine together

The liraglutide labels (Victoza, Saxenda) list no interaction with caffeine. For healthy adults, the FDA says a daily intake of 400 milligrams of caffeine, roughly two to three cups of coffee, is not generally linked to harm.

What the liraglutide label says

No line on coffee. The most important warning for anything you drink concerns kidney injury caused by fluid loss. Fluid loss from vomiting or diarrhea can cause kidney injury. If you lose a lot of fluid, report it and drink fluids.

The practical rule

If coffee makes nausea or heartburn worse, reduce your intake and drink more water. Vomiting and diarrhea can leave you dehydrated.
