Who qualifies
Every GLP-1 needs a prescription in the US. A prescriber prescribes it for a use approved by the label:
- With diet and activity, this treatment supports weight loss and helps you keep it off long term for adults and children 12 and older who have obesity (over 60 kg), or adults who have overweight plus a weight-related condition.

Scam signals
- No prescription needed: a seller who skips the prescription cannot be a pharmacy licensed in the US.
- Compounded sold as the brand: no compounded drug has FDA approval, so they are not Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound.
- FDA sent telehealth companies 30 warning letters about misleading claims that a product was the same as the brand.
- The drug is left out of one monthly price, and the FTC acted against that program; see the NextMed review.
